We are looking for a competent Anaesthetist.To be successful, the position requires an individual with a demonstrated personal integrity, compassion, firmness, strong interpersonal and communication skills; and a team player. Being compassionate and sensitive is a prerequisite for the profession. The ideal candidate goes one step further by being a critical thinker, fast to act in emergencies.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
REF: MA/HR/KHS/8/23
POSITION: Laboratory Technologist – 1
DUTY STATION: KIVULINI MATERNITY CENTRE, NGARAMTONI YA CHINI, ARUSHA

Duties and Responsibilities
  • To perform routine tests in assigned areas of the laboratory as per current Standard Operating Procedures
  • To ensure specimens collected and received are documented and managed properly before and after analysis
  • To evaluate specimen adequacy for test performance
  • To perform and document preventative and corrective maintenance, function checks
  • To perform, evaluate and document quality control data and ensure that patient results are reported when quality control does not pass

  • To ensure a safe working environment in and around the working Clinical Laboratory
  • To perform instrument troubleshooting to correct problems
  • To refer client’s inquiries to relevant clinicians
  • To ensure specimens collected and received are well documented
  • To ensure timely provision of various reports to and from the laboratory
  • To ensure valid results are verified before dispatch and are sent to the clinics/wards in a timely fashion
  • To draw blood from all booking patients for antenatal clinic
  • To be able to give appropriate counselling for HIV testing
  • To liaise with Maternity Africa’s procurement officer on a timely basis for procurement of reagents
  • To maintain a blood bank, with emergency blood available whenever possible. This will include establishing and managing blood donation sessions external to Kivulini Maternity Centre
  • To maintain a confidential approach to patients’ blood results and other results
  • To maintain the cleanliness and order of the laboratory
  • To use universal precautions when drawing and disposing of samples
  • To use all equipment, utilities and other resources as efficiently as possible to minimise waste
  • To assist with reviews, audits and investigations of the laboratory, its equipment and procedures
  • To perform any other duties as reasonably directed by the supervisor

Essential Qualifications and Requirements

  • A minimum of a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences, or related fields from a recognised Institution
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional, relevant work experience
  • Be certified as Medical Laboratory Technologist
  • Have the skills of analysing samples using diverse techniques
  • Have a proven ability to work in a team under minimal supervision, well written and oral communication skills in English and Swahili are also required
  • Knowledgeable about parasitology, biochemistry, haematology and microbiology
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Technical proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
