About Us
Honeyguide is a Tanzanian organization founded 15 years ago with the aim of advancing community-based and led approaches to conservation. Our reason for being is to make conservation deliver real benefits and be driven by local communities out of their own interest and motivation. We are the only organization in Tanzania that solely focuses all of its activities and investments on community-owned and managed Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs). We are committed to making community-led conservation work. We see community-led conservation areas as social enterprises that provide for both people and wildlife.

About the Project

The project is designed to enable the Honeyguide Foundation to build the capacity of their partner, the Community Wildlife Management Area Consortium (CWMAC), and to work in partnership to strengthen the governance and management of their members, the Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) across Tanzania as community-based civil society organizations (CSOs). The intended goal of the project is where Community-owned Wildlife Management Areas in Tanzania can govern and manage their natural resources to generate diversified livelihoods and generate sustainable economic, environmental, and social benefits. With this overarching goal; the project expects the reach these three outcomes:
  • Outcome 1: Improved capacity of the Community Wildlife Management Area Consortium of Tanzania to strategically and effectively engage, lobby, and advocate for policy change and strategic actions supporting WMAs at the national level.
  • Outcome 2: Equitably governed and professionally managed Wildlife Management Areas, utilizing the best practices, innovative approaches, and adaptive methodologies to increase climate change resilience, promote environmental sustainability, and generate social and economic impacts in communities.
  • Outcome 3: Mutual support between The Community Wildlife Management Area Consortium of Tanzania and Wildlife Management Areas through streamlined information sharing and evidence collection generating institutionalized synergy at the local and national levels.

Honeyguide is the project lead with a head office in Arusha, and the project field office in Songea and coordinating with the CWMAC main office in Dar es Salaam and partners in Iringa as well as close cooperation with the local government, private sector, and NGO partners.

About the Job:
Job Purpose:
Honeyguide wishes to contract a dynamic and experienced project manager who will be primarily responsible to implement and manage all activities that are supported by the EU project aimed to Strengthen CSOs as Independent Actors of Good Governance and Development.

Essential Functions will be:
  • To implement all the activities and actions identified in the Action whilst aligned with project objectives, budget, timeline, both Honeyguide and EU regulations, and guidelines.
  • Lead the regional project team members from both Honeyguide and CWMAC allocated in the southern Tanzania regional office.
  • Monitor project progress and outcomes and support the preparation and submission of regular progress reports based on project deliverables.
  • Coordinate the implementation of all activities with the project partners, the WMAs, local government, and NGOs working in the landscape.

  • Coordination of project partners to ensure effective communication and delivery of all activities and outcomes.
  • Management of project activities aligned with project objectives, budgets, and timelines.
  • Drive resource and project result optimization thinking within the agreed resources, activity timeline, and budgets. 
  • Be an active member of a coordinated partnership, driving continuous improvement within the broader project deployment team.

With a particular focus on:

  • In liaison with the Honeyguide Programs Manager, develop and implement appropriate administrative systems, policies, procedures and regulations that will effectively support the project implementation with the project partners, CWMAC.
  • Management and governance training coordination and design with the Honeyguide technical team for all WMAs identified in the project.
  • Manage inventory of all fixed assets, ensuring that all project assets are properly recorded, maintained, safeguarded, insured and
  • Work with the Honeyguide IT officer to ensure all IT matters are well addressed at the various locations in the project area including the southern Tanzania Office
  • Explore opportunities with the communications and programs design team to understand and capture the socio-economic and social accountability impacts of the project.
  • Engage with the Honeyguide technical team to continually evaluate the project approach, and methodology and monitor the results of governance and management organs of the WMAs within the regional landscapes.
  • Understand and engage with the leaders of the WMAs to investigate and explore the socio-economic opportunities of the WMAs to be benefits to the local communities including revenue-generating activities, HWC mitigation activities, and local development.
  • Identifies and aligns with the core values of the organization being innovation, integrity, sincerity, focus, and adaptability.
  • Undertake other duties as appropriate and as may be directed by the Line

About you:
We are looking for someone who has the following profile:
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team of project managers who will work closely with our training, communications, management, proposal development, project, and innovation management experts. As a regional Project Manager, you will be based in southern Tanzania moving between Dar es Salaam, Songea, and Iringa, where you will provide a range of project management services to our large and diverse portfolio of WMA capacity-building projects in Tanzania.

Qualifications & competencies
  • A master’s degree in Project Planning and management from a tertiary educational facility in-country or overseas.
  • A diploma or bachelors in a social-scienced-based topic that could include social-economic or social accountability monitoring or in wildlife services and conservation would be an additional advantage.
  • At least 3 years of experience in similar projects working with international donors. Specific experience with British, European, or US donors ( DIFID, Darwin Initiative, Biopama, IUCN, European Union, USAID, USFW) would be considered an advantage.
  • At least 2 years of experience working on projects that have several implementation partners and cross-cutting themes and multiple objectives.
  • Fluent in Swahili and good command of English (written & spoken).
  • High level of pro-activeness and willingness to take responsibility. High communication capability.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity & fast-paced change
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Ability to work with partners and instill a collaborative culture.
  • Ability to influence without authority
