Terms of Reference - Vermicomposting Training for Farmer Cooperatives in Southern Highlands Tanzania
INTRODUCTION

PASSPORT TO COFFEE EXPORT (PACE) PROJECT
Passport to Coffee Export (PACE) is a 51-month project, targeting approximately 22,500 smallholder coffee farmers, with 52% being youth aged (18-35 years) and women, in Mbeya, Songwe and Ruvuma regions. Tanzania. The supports factory workers from coffee cooperatives and community processing and value addition centres, to acquire technical skills and other best practises in order to enhance quality, reduce post-harvest waste and encourage resource efficiency and recyclicity.

The overall objective of the project is to promote a sustainable and inclusive sector development through a robust export oriented coffee value chain by 2024. To achieve this, the action has set four specific objectives (SO) which include: i) improving export oriented coffee sector; ii) increasing incomes through job creation; iii) enhancing food and nutrition security of smallholder coffee farmers; and iv) enhancing sectoral value addition and marketing.

In light of recyclicity, the project is looking to support about 25 AMCOS in Mbeya, Songwe and Ruvuma regions to apply vermicomposting techniques to the coffee pulps in order to create compost manure for the farms and reduce the emission caused by the uncontrolled decomposing of the pulps. In this respect, Solidaridad is looking for a consultant that can provide vermicomposting training including supply of required materials

SCOPE OF WORK
The PACE project seeks the services of a qualified firm/consultant to;
  • Provide vermicomposting training to 25 AMCOS in three regions of Songwe, Mbeya and Ruvuma
  • Facilitate vermicomposting demonstration for all 25 AMCOS

ACTIVITIES
  • Train 25 AMCOS members (approximately 10 participants from each AMCOS) on vermicomposting (uses and benefits)
  • Practical demonstration of vermicomposting to all training participants

EXPECTED OUTPUTS/DELIVERABLES
  • 250 AMCOS members trained on vermicomposting
  • 25 vermicomposting demonstration conducted
  • Report that outline all activities that were carried out and the achievements.

INPUTS
  • Solidaridad shall provide the trainer with background information on the project.
  • Solidaridad shall introduce the consultant to the relevant project team for preparatory planning. It will be the responsibility of the consultant to make contact with any external relevant organization while keeping Solidaridad in correspondence.
  • Solidaridad shall identify and propose training participants
  • The consultant shall refer to and adhere to all relevant statutory regulations (including providing an end receipt for all payments done).

QUALIFICATIONS
The applicant must have a relevant bachelor’s degree (and above). Additionally, the applicant must have good background knowledge/experience in vermicomposting. Applicant must be able to provide EFD receipts.

SUPERVISION
The consultant will report directly to the PACE Project Manager.

  • Detailed Technical Proposal (maximum of three pages)
  • Detailed Financial Proposal (budget) costs (please indicate if you are able to provide efd receipt)
  • Updated CVs for the lead consultants
