Job Function
A Mobile Harbour Crane (MHC) Operator plays a crucial role in port and terminal operations, responsible for operating cranes to load and unload cargo from ships and trucks
Key Performance Areas:
- Safely operate mobile harbour cranes to handle various types of cargo, including containers, bulk goods, and general cargo.
- Perform pre-operation inspections to ensure crane functionality and safety.
- Maneuver cranes with precision to avoid damage to goods, cranes, or surrounding structures.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations.
- Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain a safe work environment.
- Conduct routine safety checks and report any mechanical issues or safety hazards immediately.
- Load and unload cargo from vessels and trucks efficiently while minimizing delays.
- Monitor weight limits and ensure proper balancing of loads.
- Report malfunctions, breakdowns, or repair needs to the maintenance team promptly.
- Collaborate with terminal supervisors, ground staff, and other crane operators to ensure coordinated movements and workflow.
- Follow instructions from the operations team regarding loading plans and priorities.
- Use radios or hand signals for clear and safe communication during operations

Qualifications Required:
- Certification in crane operation, particularly for mobile harbour cranes.
- Thorough knowledge of crane mechanics, hydraulics, and electronics.
- Familiarity with load charts, lifting capacities, and cargo types
Experience and Skills Required:
- A minimum of 2-5 years of experience operating mobile harbour cranes or similar heavy machinery.
- Experience in port environments or logistics operations is highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of safety procedures and risk mitigation in a high-pressure environment.
- Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to potential hazards
- Good physical condition to handle long hours and operate heavy machinery in various weather conditions.
