Our 8,000+ team is drawn from diverse backgrounds and professions. With operations across six core countries in Africa, we make farmers more prosperous by providing quality farm supplies on credit, delivered within walking distance of farmers’ homes, and agricultural training to improve harvests. On average, the farmers we serve harvest 50 percent more food after working with One Acre Fund.

About the Role
By 2030, the Tanzania program plans to distribute 30 million trees of diverse species to more than 200,000 smallholder farmers. The agroforestry portfolio includes timber, fruit, and soil-improving species, which are projected to create $45 million of farmer financial impact by 2030. The Forestry Associate will lead the success of this plan.
You will report directly to the Agroforestry Manager, and manage a team of about 25 permanent and 300 temporary staff spread across 4-6 regions in the Southern Highlands.
Responsibilities

The Forestry Associate will lead the success of this plan.
You will report directly to the Agroforestry Manager, and manage a team of about 25 permanent and 300 temporary staff spread across 4-6 regions in the Southern Highlands.
Responsibilities
- Design program and agroforestry systems:
- You'll conduct field and desk research to design and trial agroforestry systems that maximize farmer impact by transforming their farms into productive and resilient ecosystems
- You'll rigorously assess farmer demand and potential for multiple agroforestry species.

- You'll create annual work-planning activities for the program.

- You'll develop tree impact models, collaborating with the MEL team to execute annual agroforestry impact assessments in the field

- Maximize farmer returns through training: You'll develop and oversee the execution of training content for all tree species

- Team management: Initially you will manage three team members' performance.

- Tree Production and Logistics: You'll lead the production/sourcing of tree seedlings through partnerships and by managing the establishment of centralized and decentralized nurseries. Create models to distribute the tree seedlings across the Southern Highlands.

Qualifications
- Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:
- 3+ years of experience working in smallholder agroforestry/agriculture with demonstrated managerial responsibilities including field and performance management
- Master's degree in Forestry or related field
- Experience with data collection and analysis (Proficiency in SPSS, STATA, or R statistical software)
- Project management experience: you have experience executing strategy within a relatively short time
- Professional proficiency in English. Knowledge of Swahili would be a bonus
