Job Title: Operations Manager
Introduction:
Isamilo International School in Mwanza, Tanzania, is owned by the Anglican Church of Tanzania under the auspices of the Diocese of Victoria Nyanza. Established in 1956, the school initially served the children of expatriates and missionaries working in the area, particularly those in the medical and mining sectors, as well as families from the local Tanzanian community. Since its inception, the school has grown significantly, transitioning from a small institution with limited facilities to a well-resourced school offering an international curriculum. Job Summary:
The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the financial, administrative, and operational functions at Isamilo International School – Mwanza (IISM). This role is critical in strategic planning, ensuring financial sustainability, and providing leadership across accounting, budgeting, human resources, procurement, and office management. The Operations Manager will work closely with the Head of School and the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to ensure the efficient use of school resources in achieving its mission and objectives. This position requires expertise in effective business management.

Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning and Marketing:
  • Contribute to the school’s strategic planning through business analysis and recommendations.
  • Participate in long-term strategic planning to support sustainability and growth.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate business and organizational risks.
Administration and Operations:
  • Oversee key administrative functions, including procurement, office management, and IT systems.
  • Ensure smooth daily operations by managing administrative staff and resources effectively.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and ensure compliance.
  • Manage contracts, leases, and agreements with vendors and service providers.
Human Resources Management:
  • Oversee all HR functions, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, staff development, and performance management.
  • Ensure employee policies and procedures are current and aligned with organizational goals.
  • Promote a positive organizational culture with a focus on staff well-being and retention.
  • Lead capacity-building initiatives in financial and operational management for staff.
Stakeholder Relations:
  • Manage relationships with stakeholders, ensuring adherence to donor requirements and timely reporting.
  • Collaborate with school teams to align goals.
  • Serve as the primary contact for financial and administrative matters with external stakeholders, including government agencies, partners, and auditors.
Financial Management:
  • Oversee all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, reporting, and forecasting.
  • Develop and implement financial strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure fiscal health and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to senior management, the board of directors, and stakeholders.
  • Manage cash flow, investments, and banking relationships.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and tax laws and manage external audits.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Education:
  • Professionals in business management or administration are preferred, though formal qualifications are not required.
  • A minimum of bachelor’s degree or Equivalent qualification from any recognized university.
  • A master’s degree will be an added advantage.
Experience:
  • A minimum of 10 years in business management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role overseeing operations. 
  • Experience in the profit-making or international business sector is a plus.
Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of financial, accounting, and human resources management principles and best practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and managing diverse stakeholder relationships.
